Build a key clamp clothing rack in a few simple steps
A clothing rack is often a focal point in a space, so it should be both practical and stylish. Clothing racks come in many different shapes and sizes, and there are various materials to create an industrial-style rack. Using tubes and key clamps is one of the best options. What do you need?
The approximate dimensions of the clothing rack are:
156 cm x 90 cm x 36 cm (height x width x depth)
Key Clamps:
- 6 x 90º Elbow 26.9mm
- 2 x Long Tee 26.9 mm
- 2 x Hook 26.9mm
Tubes:
This rack is built using steel tubes 26.9 mm.
- 3 x Tubes - 84 cm (width)
- 2 x Tubes - 150 cm (height)
- 2 x Tubes - 30 cm (depth)
Tools:
- Allen key
- Spirit level
- Tape measure
Tip! You can adjust the measurements to your preference. Subtract 6 cm from the desired measurement to get the correct tube length. For example, if you want a width of 100 cm, order tubes of 94 cm. The elbow fittings will add extra width to the final construction.
Let's Get Started!
Step 1:
Sort all tubes and key clamps by type and length.
Step 2:
Tip! Do not fully tighten the set screws until the entire structure is assembled. Once tightened, the screws create small marks on the tube, so it's best to adjust everything first.
Step 3:
Start by assembling the bottom section, including the two long T-fittings.
Step 4:
Now, assemble the top section. Don’t forget to slide the hooks onto the tube before securing both ends!
Step 5:
Now that everything is assembled, it’s time to make adjustments:
- You can fine-tune the position of the tubes by slightly sliding them within the fittings.
- Use a tape measure to check the exact distances between the tubes.
- A spirit level will help you ensure the horizontal tubes are perfectly straight.
